CBN polishing pastes

Poltava CBN Polishing Pastes

The Ultimate Finish for Hardened Steels Achieve a flawless, scratch-free mirror edge with the professional-grade CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) Polishing Paste. Specifically engineered for high-alloy and hardened steels, this compound is the gold standard for those who demand more than what standard diamond pastes can provide.

Why Professionals Choose Poltava CBN

While diamond is the hardest material, its crystal structure can be too aggressive for certain steels. Poltava CBN offers a sophisticated alternative:
  1. Superior Thermal Stability : CBN maintains its cutting edge even at high friction temperatures, making it ideal for powered strops and bobs.
  2. Micro-Smooth Cutting : The octahedral crystal shape of Poltava’s CBN works "softly," removing material without leaving deep micro-scratches on the apex of your blade.
  3. High and Normal Concentrations : Unlike retail-grade compounds, our  pastes feature a reliable concentration of abrasive grain for faster results and longer product life.

Technical Specifications

  1. Abrasive Material : Premium Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN).
  2. Base : Universal oil-based formula (easy to apply and clean).
  3. Packaging : Convenient 20g/40g syringes for precise, mess-free application.
  4. Compatibility : Optimized for HSS, D2, M390, CPM-S30V, and other high-carbide steels.

Grit Selection Guide Choose the perfect grit for your sharpening stage

  1. Coarse (40/28 to 20/14 μm) : For rapid removal of previous sharpening marks.
  2. Medium (14/10 to 7/5 μm) : Pre-mirror transition stage.
  3. Fine (3/2 to 1/0 μm) : For a true mirror finish and razor-sharp refinement.
  4. Ultra-Fine (0.5/0 μm) : For ultimate "show-room" polishing and surgical precision.

How to Apply

For best results, apply a small amount of Poltava CBN paste to a leather strop , balsa wood, or a felt wheel. A single syringe is designed to last for hundreds of sharpening sessions. Clean up easily using alcohol or a mild organic solvent.

HIGH CONCENTRATION

Cubic boron nitride stopping emulsion.
CBN is nearly as hard as diamond and harder than the Vanadium carbides found in many abrasion resistant steels.  CBN gives a more comfortable shave than diamond for straight razor users.

Weight: 40 gr.

Base:  Oil
Our base composition offers high lubrication properties and corrosion protection. Since CBN emulsion is recommended only for metals, we make it only oil based.  But we make water based cubic boron nitride emulsions on order.

Grain size: Please select from the list
The finest grain size is 0.5/0 micron (fine polishing), but we can make 0.25/0 and 0.1/0 micron.

This emulsion shows excellent non-drying(delayed drying) properties:
- Unlike other common water-based products on the market that dry out easily, this emulsion is very suitable for lapping as it can be used for a long time without particle clog and fixation(less impregnation) due to fast drying.
- It works really well on strop media that is harder than leather, like copper(half impregnation/half loose), cast iron, granite, CGSW hard strop.
- Excellent deburr properties in loose abrasive's rolling abrasion mode.

Why it's important:
As you know, once you apply diamond/CBN to leather, it will work almost forever. However, for non-absorbent surfaces, most emulsions will lose most of its abrasiveness when washed out -> frequent reapply required = higher consumption and higher costs.

Shake it well before use
Coarse grains (> 5/3 micron) are heavier, so shake it even better,
if you still see residue on the bottom - It wouldn't hurt to stir it with thin stick.
